4 First Steps to Quick and Effective Audio Streaming

By James Krawder

If you have ever listened to internet broadcasts, you were listening to audio streaming. Quick audio streaming can be a fun addition to your personal website, and an effective addition to your business site. Here are 4 steps you need to do to get you started.

Step 1: Find a Server

Many times your website host will offer this service. If not, there are plenty of others around. An internet search for audio streaming servers or a similar term will get you plenty of choices.

Step 2: Create Sound Files

Start first from a high quality recording. This requires a good microphone and recording methods, as well as a quiet environment. Because compressions (Step 3) will take out some of the quality, your original needs to be as good as possible.

Step 3: Compression and Codec

You have several choices here, but always make sure you save a backup of the original. You can use .aif, .mpg, .mov, .wav, and several other sound formats for quick audio streaming. Then choose your codec. This will depend on your bandwidth, recording type (voice or music) and what player it will work with.

Step 4: Load Up the Link

Update your website with the new files and create links. Make sure you keep links current--people who want to see or hear things on the internet are frustrated by links that go nowhere. Don’t disappoint the people who want what you have to offer.

The rest is up to you. You need to take the necessary action. Today!
